Although this bowl is quite plain with just a single bead below the rim, I find that I like it a great deal . I don't know if the Shakers ever produced turned wood but if they did I imagine that they might have produced bowls like this. It is strong and utilitarian and at the same time it has a spiritual quality to it ,the sort of bowl that you might expect to find in a monestary. This 'feel 'is generated in part because the bowl was turned 'green' and it has dried in a slightly oval shape and part of one side that cut through a branch is now quite rippled and leathery . In short the bowl already looks old with a sense of history to it. Being made of Oak it is extremely strong and should last for generations .
