Fir Block Bowl-Ref 72

The history of this piece is rather a mystery . It is one of the few bits of wood that I have turned without knowing exactly where it came from . It was sold to me as 'Ancient Irish Bog Wood' and I am certain that it came from Ireland but can't tell you which bog!! It is definitely some kind of Fir  (though I am not sure which) and judging by the state of the wood I'd imagine that it is the remains of a root many hundreds of years old . The 'bowl' part and the 'flats' are polished to a high sheen and they contrast dramatically with the very rough texture of the rest of the block. Whatever its history it makes a very impressive massive bowl!!
